What is a domestic solar water heating system?
A domestic solar water heating system collects heat from the sun and uses it to help heat your household water. It can provide hot water for baths, showers, sinks and other domestic needs.
A typical system consists of a solar panel mounted on the roof, an insulated hot water storage cylinder usually located in an airing cupboard, a pump to circulate the water, an electronic controller so that the system functions automatically, and a drain back tank or expansion vessel that allows the system to work effectively throughout the year.
A solar water heating system will not provide electricity, (it is not a solar photovoltaic system), nor will it provide hot water for a conventional central heating system.
